About Rory

Rory is the inspiration behind the website, originally started over on Vox to tell the world what living with a labradoodle is really like (the good and the bad)!

Rory is a F1 standard Labradoodle who was born in May 2008. He came home with me in July of the same year, and life has been a whirlwind ever since!

Labradoodles have been in the press consistently in the last few years, leading to their popularity sky-rocketing. From Top Gear Dog to Bella MacPherson’s five figure modelling deal, the breed has remained in the public eye. This has led to many misconceptions about Labradoodles and indiscriminate breeding by those hoping to make a quick buck/ pound/ euro.

Labradoodles are wonderful dogs but… and this is a big but…

Please note:

  • Many Labradoodles do shed and are not hypoallergenic.
  • Just because a Labradoodle does not shed does not mean they are hypoallergenic. It is the saliva and dander which causes most reactions.
  • Labradoodles, shedding or otherwise, are not for the house proud! Both Labradors and Poodles were bred originally as retrievers (yes that’s right, Poodles were bred to work) and this has produced a water and mud loving hybrid.
  • UK Labradoodles, Australian Labradoodles and ASD are all different breeds. Do your research.
  • Standard Labradoodles are big, bouncy, energetic dogs that are not suitable for every household. Miniature Labradoodles are small, bouncy, energetic dogs that are not suitable for every household.
  • If you are buying a puppy, make sure you see the parents and proof they have been health tested.
  • If you are thinking of a Labradoodle, please consider a rescue Labradoodle as an alternative to a puppy.

If you would like more information on all of the above, including The Allergy Myth, please visit the Labradoodle Trust website for more information.
